As you will read below, our City Council did indeed vote "no". Even today, I will never understand the reason. They had the support and guidance from their engineer, their solicitor, a nod of approval from the County's Planning Commission, and a yes vote from their own Planning Commission. They heard much support from citizens, received many calls & letters of support from residents and tea enthusiasts from all over the region and beyond. I showed them much proof what a valuable resource my small tea parties would have been to the city. We were crushed and so sad-not only for us-but for our City.

After our loss to City Council, I started campaigning to the business owners along Main Street. I had hoped that if enough people really understood what I had tried to accomplish; then it might make a difference. I wanted to explain and show proof how my tea parties brought in many visitors to our Main Street businesses. I thought they should know that many ladies even wrote to our City Hall explaining this important fact and how these ladies had traveled a great distance to spend the day shopping along our Main Street and enjoying our picture-taking spots.. What happened at the next City Council meeting was wonderful. We had some incredible people come and speak to City Council. They spoke from the heart and with the City's best interest in mind. It was these key speeches and many supportive people that turned the corner for us. We will be forever grateful to these citizens who stood up for us and stood up for their City.
